Celebrate Africa's rich plant life and your frizzy, curly crown with Suki Suki!
- Meet the brand

Our beloved African brand has a special story of its own. Something we say Coucou too! We’re talking about Suki Suki, founded by Linda Gieskes and handmade in Johannesburg. The name is rooted in three languages and has a meaning that resonates in each. In the founder’s home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo, suki means “hair”, in Hindi it means “happiness” and in Japanese, it means “to be fond of”.

How it all started
Linda started the brand back in 2010. Her hair was so damaged due to chemical treatments that she decided to shave off her hair and let her afro grow out naturally. She took matters into her own hands and started mixing natural African ingredients (like Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, and Jojoba Oil) in her own kitchen. As her hair grew, the reactions were overwhelming and so the cruelty-free, vegan and clean brand Suki Suki was born.

Celebrating a frizzy, curly or afro crown
Suki Suki’s mission is to create natural products that nurture, soothe and heal skin and hair with harm-free ingredients from Mother Nature’s pantry. Expressing true quality, uniquely natural and authentically African. Celebrating Africa’s rich and diverse plant life, while also sharing undiscovered and unique local specialties like Prickly-Pear and natural remedies like Papaya and Mango. We choose to shine a little light on the people who wear a frizzy, curly or afro crown. Suki Suki’s products are designed for everyone, but specifically, contribute some nourishment to basically anything that’s dry. Our Coucou team believes it is crucial to take care of your body’s largest organs, your skin and hair.

Moisturize as much as you like
The most important thing for curly and kinky hair is to moisturize. As these hair types are naturally dry, it is important that your natural hair products contain H20, yes, water! When coming out of the shower, it’s time to take care of your hair. Treating it with oil or butter is key for managing your natural beautiful kinky curly hair. Just to make this a little easier for you, try parting your hair into sections. This will help the essential nutrients of the products to get to all of your hair. You can use all three Suki Suki products that we have formulated for you!

Oils are a curl's best friend!
Sebum is the body’s natural oil and travels down the hair shaft. All those curves and twists and turns in curly hair hinder your scalp's natural oils from reaching the ends of your hair, meaning that kinky afro hair is prone to dryness. So it’s time to give your hair a little hand and help seal in that moisture. You can do this by applying a daily oil treatment or every few days, depending on the hydration needs of your crown. The Miraculous Oil can help you with this, this is what founder Linda Gieskes says about this product: It’s a great product to treat scalp issues, to promote hair growth and to moisturize the length and ends of your hair. I love how complete it is”.
